Lab Lum offers a focused dive into Northern Thai cuisine right in the heart of Bang Lamung District, a notable pause for anyone exploring beyond the typical Thai fare of the coast. The restaurant leans into the region’s richer, herb-heavy flavors, evident in a menu that showcases local staples like Khao Soi Gai and Sai Oua sausage, alongside several curry dishes and traditional dips.

The atmosphere inside Lab Lum is casual and comfortable, making it suitable for both quiet meals and larger groups curious about Northern flavors. Weekday and early evening visits work best, especially because the kitchen closes relatively early, by 8:30 pm. This timing encourages a more relaxed dining pace, avoiding the rush seen in more tourist-heavy spots.

Many diners come here looking for an authentic Northern Thai food experience without having to travel north. Small parties often enjoy the sampler platters that balance spice and variety, while locals or returning visitors might gravitate toward signature dishes like the Green Chilli Paste with Pork or the distinctive Northern sausage. The spice levels have a reputation for being genuinely bold, so it suits those comfortable with a bit of heat and complex seasoning.

Dining here can feel like a quiet discovery — it’s neither overly polished nor designed for flashy tourism. The staff tends to be helpful, guiding choices and managing groups with ease. The presence of some pet-friendly outdoor seating offers an added layer of comfort for those who prefer a more open setting.

Lab Lum’s appeal lies in how it brings a touch of Northern Thailand to this coastal area, offering a chance to explore a different culinary chapter of Thai food culture. It’s well-matched for people who relish deep regional flavors, want a moderately priced meal, and appreciate a restaurant setting where the focus remains on the food’s genuine character rather than tourist spectacle.

A Wonderful Experience. A hidden gem of a restaurant. Lab Lum serves traditional Northern Thai Food at very reasonable prices. There was 8 in our party and the final bill with 26 items was only £62 / $81 / €74. The food served was all very good wot flavours popping around the mouth like a pinball. I highly recommended this place.

We came here for a small meal while visiting the Temple nearby and the lake. It's good to find a restaurant with Northern Thai food in the south of Thailand. The menu has lots to choose from. We had the sampler platter for 2, and a sticky rice. There was enough food on the platter for both of us. Good level of spice. There was some confusion about what smoothies were available - first yes to coconut, then no, then yes once we had chosen another variety. Clean bathrooms, but no lights on the toilet cubicles - the light switches were taped off. Happily eat here again.

Nice restaurant with specialities from north of Thailand. The food was a bit more spicy than I expected, but great food, no doubt. The main constraint is the closing time (kitchen closed at 8:30pm). It is early for the weekends. Prices are reasonable and nice atmosphere inside the restaurant. Highly recommended

This place a gem. Highly recommended for both who are already northern cuisine afficianados, and those brave foodies wanting to try something different. Northern Thai restaurant is a rare find in other regions, probably because of need for a multitude of herbs and spices to produce authentic dishes. Somehow they manage to perform this feat here - somewhere near Pattaya. The larger the group, the better, so that more dishes can be sampled. The menu is also in English. For advice, ask Khun Tum. You may want to end the meal with their coconut icecream. It is served together with sesame paste (which is usally made when people are making merits in the north). The paste is a lightly sweetened with sugar cane syrup.

This is an excellent Northern Thai restaurant down by the lake in Bang Lamung. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and has parking in front. I can recommend the sai oia sausage, bum prik nuum spicy dip with pork skin and the Northern larb or spicy minced pork with herbs and spices. We ate for under 1000 thb which is a good deal for three. Staff were polite and efficient. I'll be back, it's a good deal here.
